Woodmansterne Primary School, Lambeth
School expansion provides 260 additional places
As part of the Lambeth Borough Primary Expansion Programme Woodmansterne Primary School underwent an demolition and a re-build to develop the school from a two-form entry to a four-form entry.
Shortage of school places
Primary school places are at a premium in Lambeth, especially south of the borough and this is particularly true at reception. Lambeth Council has a statutory obligation to provide sufficient primary school places for everyone in the borough and has had to provide a number of temporary classrooms over the years to meet the demand for places.
The recent expansion of Woodmansterne Primary school is a welcomed permanent solution to the problem in the catchment area serving the school and will provide an additional 260 school places, as well as a children’s centre and two nursery classes.
The works on site
Stansons Group worked in partnership with Elliot Group Ltd
to provide a window shading package that complied with all child safety requirements
and planning regulations. A range of manual Armour black-out and dim-out
premium roller blinds were fitted throughout the school, in addition to high
level motorised roller blinds, controlled by wireless remote, to the main hall.
Due to the positioning of certain windows within the school frosted half height window film was also installed to comply with planning regulations, as these windows directly overlooked residential areas surrounding the school.
"It’s always a pleasure to work with a company of Elliott Groups stature. The project went smoothly from start to finish and we are looking forward to our next project with them".
Stansons Project Manager, Fiona Maddox
A completed project
The whole project has improved and addressed the school’s sustainability, social, economic and environmental issues associated with a building of this nature, and is expected to achieve a BREEM rating of 'very good'.
