A shading solution that flows from the development itself

Turnmill is a six-story, award-winning development built in the heart of Clerkenwell. This prestigious site features 68,000 sq.ft. of Category A office space and 31,000 sq ft of flexible retail and restaurant space. The building’s curved form in roman format brick and high-end internal finishes formed the perfect brief for Stansons to create an intelligent and bespoke shading solution.

Beautiful architecture formed by people

Architects Piercy & Company designed Turnmill with a curved plan form in response to pedestrian movement, which will increase when Farringdon Crossrail opens in 2018.
This curved form meant that stock shading solutions would not fit.
Furthermore, the building’s internal design palette of polished concrete, wood and brass demanded a bespoke shading solution using only high-quality materials.

The Stansons solution

Working closely with Piercy & Company, Stansons created a solution to match the design of this unique building. Stansons’ Armour BlindBox™ features a housing for blinds which conceals them when not in use. Therefore customised, curved Armour blinds were created to dress the large, curved corner windows, whilst Armour rollers were used throughout the rest of the development. Both were supplied in a high standard of finish to blend with the interior design and still achieve a high degree of solar and heat control.

Bespoke window shading that goes with the flow

Turnmill has won many awards including RIBA London Award 2016, Brick Award 2015, Best International and Worldwide Project and the Schueco Excellence Award 2015.

Stansons award was the client’s compliment: “Stansons bespoke window shading solution beautifully compliments the curved structure and flow of Turnmill. Really pleased!”
